Meet the team: an interview with a project partner, Liselotte Ulvgård

Discover the people behind FLOATFARM in our interview series!

Meet Liselotte Ulvgård from Hagnesia Wind with 5 questions and answers about the project goals, challenges and expected impact.

Could you briefly present your organization?

Hagnesia develops a groundbreaking direct-drive generator technology with the potential to significantly improve floating wind turbines, both technologically and economically, while also reducing environmental impact. By building an extremely lightweight (high torque density) generator with low conversion losses, massive material savings (incl. critical raw materials) are made in the nacelle, thus reducing, material use, environmental impact and cost.

Could you explain the role of Hagnesia Wind within the project?

In FLOATFARM, we will develop a 15 MW generator design, and other FLOATFARM partners will help evaluate what impact it can have on the design and performance of a floating wind turbine.

How does FLOATFARM align with Hagnesia Wind’s long-term objectives?

FLOATFARM will help us understand and optimize for the potential impact that our technology can have towards enabling floating wind power.

From a start-up perspective, what is the most valuable aspect of collaborating in FLOATFARM? And EU Collaborative projects in general?

For us as a start-up, collaborating in FLOATFARM allows us to access expertise beyond our internal capabilities, providing fresh insights into how we can best develop and scale our technology. EU Collaborative projects also offer invaluable networking opportunities, enabling us to partner with leading experts and organizations across the renewable energy sector, accelerating our growth and knowledge.

As a female founder working in the wind energy and deep tech sectors, what has been your experience, and what advice would you give to other women looking to enter these fields?

I find it highly rewarding to work with research and innovation in the field of wind power and renewables. It’s stimulating to work with experts, leaders and visionaries that want to build something better – a greener and more sustainable energy system. The advice to other women would be to simply jump in – you are most welcomed and needed.
